On this five-day deep dive into some of Australia’s greatest natural wonders, you’ll explore ancient rainforests and one of the seven natural wonders of the world – the Great Barrier Reef.

With an expert leader, you’ll start your trip in Carins and make your way to Kuranda, where you’ll fly over the tropical rainforest and the quaint mountain town on the 7.5 km Skyrail. Then, head to Port Douglas – a paradise town in Queensland surrounded by palm trees and warm sands. Explore the Daintree Rainforest – the oldest living rainforest in the world – and head out on a crocodile and wildlife-spotting boat tour. Keep sailing with a full-day snorkelling adventure aboard a catamaran, accompanied by expert marine biologists, then end it all with a walking tour of Mossman Gorge with a local Aboriginal guide who will teach you about the area and its links with Dreaming.

The beauty of our style of travel is that it caters to travellers who are travelling solo and who want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender.

We also have an optional single supplement available on most trips for travellers who prefer to have their own room. This will apply to all nights on the tour.

This trip involves plenty of walking over varied terrain and is only suited to travellers with a good level of mobility and fitness. Good footwear, clothing for all types of Queensland weather, plus perhaps walking poles are recommended. More details on each walk can be found in the itinerary.

The walks included on this trip are Grade 3 (suitable for most ages & fitness levels, some walking experience recommended, tracks may have short, steep sections, a rough surface and many steps) and Grade 4 (walking experience recommended, tracks may be long, rough & steep).

The weather in this part of the world can be unpredictable, even in the dry season, so be sure to pack for all conditions!

Walks indicated in the day-by-day itinerary are the best pick, but your guide may need to change them sometimes depending on the track and weather conditions.

All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity).

Contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent.

It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip will vary depending on where you are from and where you are going.

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory on this trip.

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.

You can have a plate of food for a street vendor for AU$10-$20, however there are always more expensive options. From a mid-range, sit-down restaurant, expect to pay AU$20-$80 - not including alcohol.

ESSENTIAL ITEMS:

  • Day-pack - with a thick waist strap to help take some weight off your shoulders. In wet weather, a waterproof cover or a bin bag to wrap your belongings in can be handy
  • Shorts/long pants and shirts for walking - as many sets as you wish! Quick-dry material is best, especially for trousers. Don't wear jeans walking.
  • Socks - whichever thickness you're comfortable walking in and as many pairs as you like
  • Boots/shoes for walking (make sure you wear them in well)
  • Windcheater or lightweight jumper for walking
  • Waterproof jacket*
  • Sun protection - hat (secure fitting and/or with chin strap), sun cream, sunglasses
  • Casual clothes for evenings
  • Torch/headlamp (can be handy when twin sharing for getting up at night)
  • Any preferred first aid supplies - such as your favourite blister treatment! (Your guide will carry a full first-aid kit)
  • Water bottle/s or camelback – 2 to 3-litre capacity
  • A lunch container (with freezer brick if desired)
  • *You have to expect some bad weather at any time of the year down here, so bring wet weather gear even if the forecast is fine.

OPTIONAL ITEMS:

  • Waterproof pants. Some people love them, and some hate them – it's up to you
  • Fly net (especially for walks in warmer weather)
  • Camera and charger/batteries
  • Gaiters for snake bite protection are recommended unless you wear long pants and long socks. They're also good for keeping sand out of your shoes.
  • Sock protectors (to keep sand out of your boots)
  • Robust sandals for wading/beach sections
  • Bathers and towel
  • A small towel to carry during the day
  • Snacks and alcohol – there will be time to purchase more during the week if needed. Some people like to have some muesli bars, nuts, lollies etc
  • Walking poles

Due to limited vehicle space and strictly enforced road laws regarding transport of baggage, your main piece of luggage must be soft-sided, compact and weigh no more than 15kg/33lb. The Operator is unable to carry large suitcases or bags, particularly hard/externally framed suitcases as they are difficult to store and can damage equipment and other travellers' belongings.

Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender.

We also have an optional single supplement available on most trips for travellers who prefer to have their own room. This will apply to all nights on the tour.

Travellers with special dietary requirements or food allergies are required to advise us at the time of booking.

You may be asked to pay for any additional food if you have not advised us of any special dietary requirements. Due to the often remote nature of our trips, food is basic but plentiful and delicious.

The below dietary needs can be easily catered for.

  • Vegetarian
  • Gluten-Free
  • Dairy Free (soy available)
  • Pork Free
  • Please bring your own staples (nuts, bars, snacks) if you require a diet differing from the above.
